Law defeats Westies
WH falls, 93-75

(February 24, 2015) - The West Haven boys swim team fell to Jonathan Law Tuesday evening, 93-75, at Foran High.
The Westies, who won six events, received solid efforts from Max Padro and Gaelen Rhoads, but that was not enough in an 18-point loss. Padro and Rhoads were each part of three victorious events.
Padro won the 200 freestyle in 1 minute, 50.05 seconds and the 100 backstroke in 59.99, while Rhoads was a victor in the 100 fly in 1:08.42 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:14.57.
Both were also part of the victorious 400 free relay which won in 4:07.64. The team consisted of Luis Alvarez, T.J. Blotney, Padro and Rhoads. Alvarez also won the diving event.
Westies fall to Shelton
Gaels beat West Haven, 107-72

(February 5, 2015) - The West Haven boys swimming team won only three events in a 107-72 loss to Shelton Thursday afternoon at West Haven High Pool. With the loss, the Westies fell to 0-9 on the year.
Max Padro had a solid day for the Westies as he came away with two of the three victories.
Padro won the 50 freestyle in 23.80 seconds and the 100 breaststroke in 1:04.69. Luis Alvarez picked up the other West Haven win with 176.55 points in the diving event.
Westies fall to Notre Dame
Green Knights post 94-84 victory

(January 29, 2015) - The West Haven boys swimming team fell to cross-town rival Notre Dame Thursday afternoon at West Haven High Pool. Despite winning six events, the Westies were defeated 94-84.
Max Padro continued his stellar season as he was part of three victorious events. Padro won the 200 IM in 2 minutes, 4.40 seconds, took home the top spot in the 100 freestyle in 51.37 seconds and was part of the victorious 400 freestyle relay team.
That team consisted of Annasse Rajeh, Padro, T.J. Blotney and Gaelen Rhoads, and won in 4:33.73.
The 200 freestyle relay team was also victorious. The team consisted of Rajeh, Tyler DeGroate, Adrian Urbina and Luis Alvarez and won in 2:07.67.
DeGroate was a victor in the 100 backstroke in 1:32.92 and Rhoads won the 100 breaststroke in 1:13.25.
Hamden tops Westies
Padro, Rhoads solid performers in loss

(January 22, 2015) - The West Haven boys swimming team fell to Hamden, 100-78, Thursday afternoon at West Haven High Pool.

Max Padro had a big day for the Westies as he was part of three victorious teams. Padro won the 200 IM in 2 minutes, 2.75 seconds, the 500 freestyle in 4:59.18 and was part of the victorious 400 freestyle relay team . The team consisted of Carmelo Hernandez, Padro, T.J. Blotney and Gaelen Rhoads and finished in 4:08.59.

Rhoads also had a nice day, winning the 100 breaststroke in 1:12.91. Tyler DeGroate won the 100 backstroke in 1:32.04.
Lions tame Westies
Foran posts 94-73 win

(January 13, 2015) - The West Haven boys swimming team fell to Foran Tuesday afternoon, 94-73, at West Haven High.

Junior Max Padro had a stellar day once again as he was victorious in three events. Padro won the 200 IM in 2 minutes, 5.95 seconds, the 100 freestyle in 55.58 seconds and was part of the victorious 400 freestyle relay team.
The relay team consisted of senior Carmelo Hernandez, Padro, sophomore T.J. Blotney and senior Gaelen Rhoads, winning in 4:12.61.
Junior Luis Alvarez was victorious in diving with 169.90 points and Rhoads won the 100 breaststroke in 1:13.61.
Handed a Loss
Westies fall to Tigers, 100-77

(January 9, 2015) - The West Haven boys swimming team posted seven victories over Daniel Hand Friday afternoon. Unfortunately for the Westies, Hand used its depth to defeat West Haven, 100-77.

The Westies had numerous swimmers with multiple victories. Luis Alvarez, Gaelen Rhoads and Max Padro were each part of three winning events.
West Haven won the 200 medley relay in 2 minutes, 2.12 seconds with a team of Padro, Rhoads, Alvarez and T.J. Blotney. Padro won the 200 IM in 2:04.49, Alvarez won the diving with 149.85 points, and the 100 fly in 1:10.09.
Padro also won the 100 freestyle in 51,93, Rhoads won the 100 breaststroke in 1:13.57 and the 400 freestyle relay team of Carmelo Hernandez, Padro, Blotney and Rhoads was victorious in 4:09.13.

Titans escape with 95-79 win

(January 4, 2015) - The West Haven boys swim team continued to search for its first win of the season. The Westies looked as if they might get that victory Tuesday afternoon, but Sheehan had just enough to defeat the Westies 95-79 at West Haven High.
Despite the efforts of junior Max Padro and senior Gaelen Rhoads, who were each part of three victorious events, the loss kept West Haven winless on the year.
Padro won the 200 freestyle in 1 minute, 54.67 seconds, Rhoads won the 200 IM in 2:30.47, and junior Luis Alvarez was a victor in the diving with 173.55 points.
Padro won the 100 fly in 56.97 seconds, Rhoads won the 100 breaststroke in 1:15.91 and the Westies were victorious in the 400 freestyle relay in 4:23.99.
The 400 freestyle relay team consisted of senior Carmelo Hernandez, Padro, sophomore T.J. Blotney and Rhoads.
Many swimmers on the team received their best times of the season. T.J. Blotney got second place in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 6:17:87 and Tyler DeGroate placed second in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:34:03.

Shortage hurts in loss

(January 2, 2015) - The West Haven swim team fell to Haddam-Killingworth Friday afternoon at Haddam-Killingworth.
This was a very difficult meet as many of the swim team's members did not attend, leaving the team with eight swimmers to try and pull out a win. Although all eight teammates gave the meet their all, they could not secure a win.
Luis Alvarez battled for third in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1 minute, 19:62 seconds, and Max Padro was first in the 100 yard freestyle and 500 yard freestyle. Gaelen Rhoads got first in the 100 yard breast stroke with a time of 1:16:90. The final relay, which was the 400 yard relay, saw Alvarez, Mark Dalton, Adrian Urbina and Padro place first in a time of 3:24:17.
Kennedy nips Westies

(December 23, 2014) - After a very eventful and energetic meet against Kennedy, the West Haven boys swim team fell 91-90 Tuesday evening.
The team definitely took this meet to the next level as each teammate gave everything they had in their respective events.
Max Padro placed first in the 200 freestyle in a time of 1 minute, 53.16 seconds. Gaelen Rhoads placed first in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:34.44 and Luis Alvarez followed with a victory in diving (161.60) and the 100 butterfly in a time of 1:14.77. T.J. Blotney took home first place in the 500 freestyle in a time of 6:18.45.
"It was an awesome meet," West Haven coach Eric McCauley said. "Everyone swam their heart out and we had no mistakes. They just edged us out in the end."
The 200 medley relay team of Padro, Rhoads, Alvarez and Blotney won in 2:04.00, Padro won the 100 freestyle in 50.90, and the 200 freestyle relay team of Padro, Rhoads, Carmelo Hernandez and Blotney won in 1:53.72.
Westies fall to Trojans
Season opens with 92-78 loss to Lyman Hall

(December 18, 2014) - The West Haven boys swimming team opened the season with a 92-78 loss against Lyman Hall at Sheehan High Wednesday afternoon. Even though the team lost the meet, it displayed the team's common strengths.
Senior Gaelen Rhoads battled for second place in the 200 freestyle event with a time of 2 minutes, 25.10 seconds.
Junior Max Padro battled for second place in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:05.17. This race was very close with Padro and his competitor from Lyman Hall, Robbie Driscoll, neck and neck, but, in the end, Padro lost the battle for first place as Driscoll won in 2:04.81.
Junior Tyler DeGroate was victorious in the 100 backstroke in 1:45.19, Rhoads won the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.25 and the 400 freestyle relay team of senior Carmelo Hernandez, sophomore T.J. Blotney, Padro and Rhoads won in 4:37.03.
Luis Alvarez won the diving event with 155.15 points.
