East Haven tops Westies 5-2

(May 7, 2021) - The West Haven boys tennis team fell to 0-9 with a 5-2 loss to East Haven in West Haven Friday afternoon.
West Haven’s two victories came when top-seeded Punar Garani defeated Gabe Okzewski 1-, 6-0, 10-3, and second-seeded Ben Sager topped Mateusz Wiszniewski 7-5, 3-6, 11-9.
Third-seeded Mat Divitto of East Haven defeated Abdul Mohamednoor 6-0, 6-1, and East Haven’s fourth seed of Oliver Kabel topped Mustansir Jamalee 6-1, 6-0.
In doubles action, top-seeded Matt Battaglino and Oliver Gonzalez of East Haven defeated Murtaza Amjad and Ahmed Mohamednour 6-0, 6-3, while second-seeded Devon Lopez and Minh Trinh of East Haven topped Chris Leum and Robert Vets 6-1, 6-1.
Third-seeded Dom Montouri and Justin Donnelly of East Haven defeated Valentin Diaz and Yousef Mohamed 4-6. 6-2, 10-4.
Foran tops West Haven
Lions post 7-0 victory over Westies

(May 8, 2021) - Despite a hard-fought match, West Haven dropped to 0-10 with a 7-0 road loss against Foran of Milford Saturday morning. The defeat sent West Haven to 0-10 on the year.
In singles action, Foran’s top seed of Nico Esposito defeated Punar Garani 6-2, 7-5, second seed Arush Puri of Foran topped Ben Sager 2-6, 6-3, 6-4, third-seeded Jared O’Sullivan beat Hayat Khan of West Haven, 6-2, 6-0, and Foran’s Ryan Purviance defeated Mustansir Jamalee 6-0, 6-0 in the fourth slot.
In doubles play, Foran’s top seed of Danny Abate and Danny Ruano defeated Murtaza Amjad and Ahmed Mohamednour of West Haven 6-1, 6-4, while second-seeded Kevin Huang and Keith Pokornowski of Foran topped Driton Imerukaj and Chris Leum 6-0, 6-1. Foran’s third seed of Josh Cummings and Steven Mingrone rounded out the sweep by winning the third seed by forfeit.

Green Dragons top Westies 6-1

(May 10, 2021) - The West Haven boys tennis team traveled to Hamden Monday afternoon and dropped a 6-1 decision against the Green Dragons. The lone victories for the Westies came in the third slot of doubles action as each team received a double forfeit.
In singles action Quinn Northrup defeated Punarvasan Garani 6-4, 6-1, Brian Oppenheim topped Ben Sager 6-3, 6-3, third-seeded Nolan Jermain beat Abdul Mohamednoor 6-0, 6-1, and fourth-seeded Josh Alexander defeated Hayat Khan 6-1, 6-0.
In doubles play, Hamden’s Ivan Flores and Deng Koi topped Murtaza Amjad and Ahmed Mohamednour 6-0, 6-3, and Paras Dodd and Maddox Cho topped Chris Leum and Robert Vets 7-6, 6-1.

(May 10, 2021) - The West Haven boys tennis team fell to 0-12 with a 7-0 home loss against undefeated Jonathan Law Tuesday evening.
In singles play, Dan Fullani topped Punarvasan Garani 6-0, 6-0, second-seeded Adarsh Senthilnathan defeated West Haven’s Ben Sager 6-0, 6-0, third-seeded Sanskar Shah defeated Abdul Mohamednoor 6-2, 6-0, and fourth-seeded Anish Sikhinam topped Hayat Khan 6-3, 6-2.
In doubles play, Law’s Julien Roy and Brian Zirkel defeated Chris Leum and Robert Vets 6-1, 6-0. Second-seeded Angel Santiago and Pardhip Nair defeated Valentin Diaz and Yousef Mohamed 6-1, 6-2, and third-seeded Marcelo Silva and Abinan Hazarika topped Driton Imerukaj and Mustansir Jamalee 6-0. 6-0.

(May 14, 2021) - The West Haven boys tennis team fell to 0-13 with a 6-1 road loss to Sheehan in Wallingford Friday afternoon.
In singles play, Sheehan’s top seed of Avery Solan defeated Punarvasan Garani 6-2, 6-2, West Haven’s second seed of Ben Sager topped Kalen Boman 3-6, 6-3, 11-9, Sheehan’s John Womelsdorf topped Abdul Mohamednoor 6-0, 6-0, and Satvik Agnihotram defeated Mustansir Jamalee 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles action, Sheehan’s Matt Carboni and Jadin Kapoor defeated Murtaza Amjad 6-0, 6-0, Connor Duffey and Vraj Patel topped West Haven’s Chris Leum 6-0, 6-1, and third-seeded Brenna Lagasse and Ryan Lagasse topped Valentin Diaz and Yousef Mohamed 7-5, 6-0.

(May 17, 2021) - The West Haven boys tennis team picked up its first victory of the year and improved to 1-13 with a 4-3 victory over Wilbur Cross Monday afternoon in West Haven.

West Haven won all three doubles matches to take home the victory. Top-seeded Murtaza Amjad and Ahmed Mohamednour defeated Adam Shargawe and Paulette Jara 6-2, 7-6, Second-seeded Chris Leum and Robert Vets topped Natalie Quiroz Duran and Edison Contreras 6-2, 6-2, and third-seeded Valentin Diaz and Driton Imerukaj defeated Karen Jan and Jacqueline Hernandez 6-0. 6-1.
In singles play, top-seeded Jacob Martin defeated West Haven’s Punarvasan Garani 6-0, 6-1. West Haven’s Ben Sager picked up his team’s lone singles victory by topping Jayden Rivera 6-1, 6-0, while Lily Goren of Wilbur Cross defeated Yousef Mohamed 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, and Tresar Mkambilwa of Wilbur Cross topped Mustansir Jamalee 6-1, 6-1.
Career sweeps Westies
West Haven drops to 1-15

(May 19, 2021) - The West Haven boys tennis team fell to 1-15 as it was swept in a rare doubleheader match with Career in New Haven. The Westies lost both matches 4-3.
In the first match at Edgewood Park, Career’s Marcus Duff defeated Punarvasan Garani Martin Duff topped West Haven’s Ben Sager 8-1, Sam Padilla defeated Abdul Mohamednoor 8-1, and West Haven won by forfeit in the fourth slot.
In doubles action, Career’s Terry Giles and Osania Brown defeated West Haven’s Chris Leum and Robert Vets 8-0, and West Haven took home the next match by forfeit.
Career also topped the Westies in the other match between the two teams on the day.
In singles action, Marcus Duff again defeated Garani 8-1, Giles topped Sager 8-3, Brown defeated Hayat Khan 8-6, and West Haven won the fourth singles match by forfeit.In doubles play, Career’s Sam Padilla and Martin Duff defeated Valentin Diaz and Driton Imerukaj 8-0. West Haven also had forfeit victories in doubles play as well.

Westies fall in Opener
Lyman Hall posts 5-1 victory over WH

(April 12, 2021) - The West Haven boys tennis team opened the 2021 season with a 5-1 loss against Lyman Hall in Wallingford Monday afternoon.
West Haven’s lone victory came in the second doubles slot as sophomore Valentin Diaz and junior Mustansir Jamalee won by default. Neither team had enough players for the third doubles team.
In the second doubles spot, Lyman Hall’s Anshul Patel and Tyler Hudson topped West Haven’s Murtaza Amjad and Ahmed Mohamednour 6-0, 6-4.
In singles action, Lyman Hall’s top seed of Jackson Mailhot defeated Punarvasan Garani 6-4, 6-1. Second-seeded Brady Campbell topped West Haven’s Ben Sager 6-0, 6-0, and third-seeded Alex Zelaya defeated West Haven’s Rob Vets 6-0, 6-0. Fourth-seeded Evan Smith of Lyman Hall topped Chris Leum 6-0, 6-0.

(April 20, 2021) - The West Haven boys tennis team engaged in a hard-fought battle against Hamden Monday afternoon. The Westies could not pull out the victory, falling to 0-3 with a 4-3 loss against Hamden in West Haven.
In singles action, top-seeded Punarvasan Garani defeated Hamden’s Quinn Northrup 7-6, 3-6, 10-7. Hamden’s Brian Oppenheim defeated West Haven’s Ben Sager in the second slot 6-3, 6-3, while Hamden’s Josh Alexander topped third-seeded Abdul Mohamednoor 6-3, 6-0. West Haven’s Hayat Khan took home the victory in the fourth slot.
In doubles action, Hamden’s Will Shrier and Ivan Forbes defeated West Haven’s top seed of Murtaza Amjad and Ahmed Mohamednour 6-2, 6-1. (April 23, 2021) - The West Haven boys tennis team fell to 0-4 with a 6-1 loss to Sheehan Thursday afternoon in West Haven. West Haven’s lone win came in singles play where top-seeded Punarvasan Garani topped Avery Sloan 7-5, 4-6, 10-7.

(April 26, 2021) - The West Haven boys tennis team entered Monday’s match against Wilbur Cross searching for its first win of the season. Despite a solid effort, West Haven was edged by the Governors 4-3 in New Haven and fell to 0-7 on the year.
In singles play, top-seeded Jacob Martin of Wilbur Cross defeated Ben Sager of West Haven 6-1, 6-0. Jayden Rivera of Cross topped West Haven’s second seed Hayat Khan 7-5, 4-6, 6-1, and Osiana Brown of Cross defeated Mustansir Jamalee of West Haven 6-0, 6-0. Fourth-seeded Yousef Mohamed of West Haven topped Roxanne Virtue of Cross 7-5, 7-5.

In singles play, top-seeded Jackson Mailhot of Lyman Hall defeated Punar Garani 6-1, 6-2. Second-seeded Brady Campbell of Lyman hall topped West Haven’s Ben Sager 6-0, 6-2, while Lyman Hall’s third seed of Alex Zeleya topped Abdul Mohamednoor 6-2, 6-1. Lyman Hall completed the singles sweep when Anshu Patel topped Hayat Khan 7-5, 6-4..
