The West Haven girls lacrosse team improved to 4-5 with its second straight win and third victory in four contests, defeating Hamden 14-13 on the road Thursday evening.

The Westies scored nine times in the first half and led by three goals, before Hamden rallied in the second half.
Seniors Mary McDaniel and Gabi Prisco led the way for the Westies as McDaniel scored seven goals and added a pair of assists. Prisco scored five times and had one assist, while Kaitlynn Cooke and Keegan Riccio each scored once. Riccio also added an assist in the victory.Shannon Kennedy led Hamden with six goals, while Kelsey Darcy had three goals and one assist. Madisyn Crotta made 11 saves in the win for the Westies. 


Three in a Row
Westies improve to 5-5 with win over Hamden

(May 8, 2017) - The West Haven girls lacrosse team won its third contest in a row and fourth in five games with a 14-10 victory over Hamden Monday evening at Ken Strong Stadium in West Haven.  With the victory, West Haven improved to 5-5 on the year.

The two teams matched up in an evenly played first half where each team scored six times. The Westies then outscored Hamden 8-4 in the second half to post the victory.
Seniors Gabi Prisco and Mary McDaniel led the way as Prisco had five goals and two assists, and McDaniel added four goals and an assist. Annalise DePino, Amani Cayo, Celina Condon, Keegan Riccio and Alexis Burzynski each scored once for the Westies.

Sheehan holds off Westies
West Haven falls to 5-6 with 9-8 loss to Titans

 The West Haven girls lacrosse team saw its three-game winning streak come to an end with a 9-8 home loss against Sheehan Thursday evening.
The game was evenly played throughout with the two teams tied at four in the first half. The Titans narrowly pulled out the victory in the second half.

Gabi Prisco and Mary McDaniel led the Westies with three goals apiece, while Madisyn Crotta scored twice.
Prisco also added an assist along with Annalise Depino who had two and Keegan Riccio who had one.

Prisco rallies Westies
Senior scores 4 times in final minutes of 11-10 victory

It should come as no surprise when West Haven senior Gabi Prisco does something extraordinary. For four years, Prisco has been an all-state presence on the soccer and lacrosse fields as well as on the ice in hockey.
What Prisco did Monday afternoon tells all one needs to know about her refuse to quit mentality. Trailing 10-7 in the final minutes of regulation, Prisco scored four times, including the game-winner with 17 seconds remaining, to lift West Haven to an 11-10 victory at North Haven.
Prisco finished the contest with five goals, while Mary McDaniel added three more, and Madisyn Crotta scored twice. Amani Cayo also scored for the Westies.
Trailing 10-7, Prisco scored the next three West Haven goals to even the contest at 10. Prisco capped the rally with the winner in the final seconds to help West Haven to its fourth win in its last five contests to improve to 6-6 on the season.
Nicole Gaston made six saves in the win. 


Shelton downs Westies
Strong second half propels Gaels to 13-9 win

- The West Haven girls lacrosse team was looking to build off an exciting comeback victory over North Haven just 24 hours earlier. Instead, the Westies suffered a tough defeat.

Outscored 7-3 in the second half, West Haven fell to Shelton 13-9 on the road Tuesday afternoon. With the loss, West Haven fell to 6-7 on the year. 

Mary McDaniel led the West Haven offense with four goals, while Madisyn Crotta scored twice. Gabi Prisco, Shannon Siclari, and Mackenzie Holy each scored once for West Haven.

Nicole Gaston made nine saves in the loss.


Senior Send Off
Prisco, McDaniel lead Westies past Foran on Senior Night

Celebrating Senior Night, the West Haven girls lacrosse team saw just how fast four years have gone by in the storied career of Gabi Prisco. One of the best players to come through the program, Prisco finished her home career in style, scoring six goals and adding five assists in an 18-10 victory over Foran Friday evening at Ken Strong Stadium in West Haven.

West Haven improved to 7-7 on the season with the victory. 

Prisco and her teammates, which also included three goals from Mary McDaniel, took control of the game with a 15-4 lead in the first half and never looked back in the win.

Madisyn Crotta scored three times and added an assist, while Kailin Kyle, Lauren Bernardo, Kaitlynn Cooke, Annalise Depino, Mackenzie Holy and Keegan Riccio all scored once. Riccio also added an assist in the win.

 -  The West Haven girls lacrosse team won its second straight contest and improved to 8-7 on the season with a 7-6 road victory over Amity Saturday morning.

Gabi Prisco, who scored six times in a win over Foran, kept her torrid streak going with four more goals and an assist. Madisyn Crotta scored three times, and Amani Cayo and Keegan Riccio each had one assist. 

West Haven took a first half lead, 5-4, in a tightly contested game. With the defensive play picking up in the second half, each team scored twice, allowing West Haven to post the one-goal victory.

Crotta, Prisco lead Westies

  The West Haven girls lacrosse team may not like the way the season may have started, but the Westies sure have to be happy with the way it has ended. Winners of their final three games, and four of their last five, the Westies finished the regular season with a 9-7 record. 

The latest victory in the streak came Monday evening in Milford as the Westies rode the play of Madisyn Crotta and Gabi Prisco to post a 13-7 victory over Foran at Foran High. 

Crotta led the West Haven offense with six goals, while Prisco continued her stellar season with five goals to give her 63 tallies on the year.  

Keegan Riccio and Annalise Depino also scored in the game for the Westies. 

Nicole Gaston came up big in goal, finishing with nine saves.  


Trumbull eliminates Westies
Season ends with 15-8 loss

  Even a hot run at the end of the regular season could not help the Westies. Winners of their final three regular season contests and four of their last five, the 14th-seeded Westies saw their season come to a close with a 15-8 loss against 19th-seeded Trumbull at Ken Strong Stadium in West Haven Saturday evening.

With the loss comes the end of a storied career for West Haven senior Gabi Prisco, who scored five times and added an assist in what would be her final game in a West Haven uniform. Prisco finished the season with a team-leading 68 goals. 

Trumbull took control of the game in the first half, jumping out to a 9-3 lead. West Haven kept inching closer, but Trumbull responded each time and never let the Westies get within striking distance.

Mary McDaniel also scored twice, and Madisyn Crotta added a goal in the loss. McDaniel also added a pair of assists, while Crotta had a helper as well.

Westies fall to Mercy

 The West Haven girls lacrosse team had to wait a little longer than the rest of the spring sports teams to get the season started. While the Westies battled, it was not enough in an 8-7 loss against Mercy to open the season Saturday evening at Ken Strong Stadium.

The Westies trailed by three goals early, including 5-2 at halftime, before battling back. The Westies used a 5-3 run to get started in the second half, but could not get any closer.

Gabi Prisco started her senior season in style, scoring four times. Junior Alexis Burzynski added two goals and senior Shannon Siclari had one goal in the loss.

McDaniel leads WH to first win of season

 Looking for a spark to get in the win column, the West Haven girls lacrosse team found it in senior Mary McDaniel. Scoring three times and adding an assist, McDaniel led West Haven to an 8-5 victory over Sacred Heart Academy Tuesday afternoon in Hamden. 

With the win, West Haven improved to 1-1 on the year after falling to Mercy in the season opener. 

Senior Gabi Prisco scored twice, sophomore Celina Condon added a goal and an assist, and juniors Annalise Depino and Shannon Siclari each scored once. Nicole Gaston made 16 saves in the win for the Westies.

After the two teams traded the first four goals of the game, West Haven went on a 3-1 run to take a 5-3 lead at the half.

Prisco set up McDaniel for a 1-0 lead with 24 minutes, 42 seconds to go in the opening half. With the game even at one, Prisco scored with 19:56 remaining for a 2-1 advantage.

Mackenzie Holy set up Prisco for a 3-2 lead with 9:18 remaining in the half for a 3-2 advantage, and McDaniel scored twice in 1:08 for a 5-2 lead.

With a 5-4 lead in the second half, West Haven scored three times to put the game away. Condon scored an unassisted goal with 17:28 to go for a 6-4 advantage, Siclari scored off an assist from Condon with 12:40 left for a 7-4 lead, and Depino scored off an assist from McDaniel with 4:13 for a four-goal lead.


North tops West
Indians beat Westies in overtime

 Coming off its initial victory of the season over Sacred Heart Academy, the West Haven girls lacrosse team hoped to ride the momentum into Saturday evening's contest against North Haven. 

Despite holding the edge in play in the opening half, the Westies could not hold on and eventually lost to the Indians 10-9 in overtime Saturday evening at Ken Strong Stadium.

West Haven (1-2) led 6-5 at halftime, but could only score three times in the second half. The Indians capitalized to even the game and won in overtime. 

Mary McDaniel and Gabi Prisco led the West Haven offense as each scored three times and added an assist. Alexis Burzynski, Amani Cayo, and Madisyn Crotta also scored for West Haven.

Law too much for WH
Westies fall 17-13 despite efforts of McDaniel and Prisco

The West Haven girls lacrosse team is looking to get into a rhythm. Unfortunately for the Westies, that rhythm has yet to come. 
Despite scoring 11 goals in the second half, West Haven fell to Jonathan Law 17-13 Tuesday evening at Ken Strong Stadium in West Haven. The loss drops West Haven to 1-3 on the season.

Looking to rebound from a tough loss to North Haven Saturday evening, West Haven trailed early and never recovered.

Jonathan Law scored eight goals in the opening half and took a six-goal lead to the break. 
West Haven outscored Law 11-9 in the second half, but the first-half deficit was too much to overcome.

Senior Mary McDaniel led the way for West Haven with five goals and two assists, while fellow senior Gabi Prisco had four goals and five assists in the loss. 
Madisyn Crotta also played well for West Haven with three goals.
Jonathan Law was led by Colleen Goodwin with five goals and two assists, and Andria Torres with four goals and one assist. 
Olivia Keater had three goals and four assists in the win for Law.

Westies drop to 1-4 on season

 The West Haven girls lacrosse team dropped its third straight contest Thursday afternoon when it fell to Lauralton Hall 19-7 in Milford. The loss drops West Haven to 1-4 on the season. 

In a game dominated by the Crusaders, West Haven had a few bright spots in the contest. Seniors Gabi Prisco and Mary McDaniel accounted for the offense with Prisco scoring six times and McDaniel scoring twice.

Looking to get back on the winning track, the West Haven girls lacrosse team did so Saturday evening against Sacred Heart Academy at Ken Strong Stadium in West Haven.

Paced by three goals apiece from Mary McDaniel and Gabi Prisco, West Haven defeated the Sharks 11-5.
West Haven jumped out of the gates quickly, scoring seven times in the first half and taking a 7-2 lead. In a much tighter played game in the second half, West Haven held a 4-3 advantage to go on to the 11-5 victory.

Shelton rolls past Westies

 The struggles for the West Haven girls lacrosse team continue. Unable to get any continuity on offense, the Westies lost for the fourth time in five games with a 15-9 defeat against Shelton Thursday evening.
The Westies battled in the first half and trailed by just one goal at 5-4 when halftime arrived. The second half was a different story as the Gaels used a 10-5 run to cruise past the Westies and drop West Haven to 2-5 on the year.
Goals by Mary McDaniel and Gabi Prisco had West Haven on top 4-3 before Shelton closed the opening half with a 5-4 lead.
McDaniel scored four times, while Prisco added two goals and an assist in the loss. Madisyn Crotta also scored twice, with Shannon Siclari scoring once. Keegan Riccio had a pair of assists in the loss.

Seniors propel team past Lyman Hall

 Looking to turn its season around, the West Haven girls lacrosse team is on the right track. Behind the play of seniors Gabi Prisco and Mary McDaniel, West Haven won its second contest in three games with a 12-9 decision over Lyman Hall in West Haven Monday evening.

The victory, which saw Prisco score five times and McDaniel add three, helped improve West Haven’s mark to 3-5 on the year.
In a high-scoring first half, the two teams combined for 11 goals and West Haven held a 7-4 advantage. An evenly played second half saw each team score five times as West Haven prevailed by three goals.
Madisyn Crotta, who was called on to play in goal, made 11 saves in the win for the Westies.
Annalise Depino, Shannon Siclari, Keegan Riccio and Mackenzie Holy each scored once in the win for West Haven.McDaniel, Riccio, Prisco, and Lexi Burzynski all had one assist in the contest for West Haven.
